The Security industry Authority, who regulate the industry have been making some changes!
Firstly, the CCTV training courses for which they set the syllabus, have changed and will now come into effect in September. For some years, there was concern that the assessments did not measure some aspects of CCTV operations. The exams currently in use are multi choice questions with question papers of 40 questions and a pass mark of 70% (28 out of 40).
The new syllabus now includes some written assessment to measure knowledge of writing Police statements and incident reports. So, where we had in the past there was, “state” or “explain”, we now have “demonstrate” in module one, whereby students will have to complete an incident log and police statement. This will be assessed by the training company who will advise the awarding body if the student has met the standard or not.
One change, made by the SIA, which may be more welcome, is the reduction in licence fee to £190 for a three-year licence. If you require a second licence, for example, door supervisors as well as CCTV, this will attract a 50% reduction.
In the near future, in conjunction with our associate CCTV Training, we will have an online refresher assessment available to those CCTV operators who have not had training for some time. This will test your observational skills, knowledge of law and practical topics. Keep an eye out for more details.
